The P90X program is intense. Not only because of the exercises but the time to complete the daily workouts. Even though an hour is only 4% of our day, it's still makes it challenging to do that 5 days a week (plus one day of 90 minutes) no matter what you do for a living - stay at home mom or anything else.
So what my husband and I did before just randomly starting day 1 we calculated each of the workout times and thought about what days during the week we had the most time to commit to the longer workouts. For us, the weekend is easiest to fit in the long workouts plus we can for sure do them side-by-side and push each other to finish. So that meant that YogaX, which is the 90 minute workout needed to fall on a weekend day. So then we looked at what that would mean for the other days if we scheduled it on Saturday vs Sunday. The workout before and after to the YogaX are both fairly long, 75 minutes. So that didn't help our decision. But then we looked at 2 days before, and noticed it was one of the shorter workouts, only 59 minutes. If we scheduled Yoga X for Sunday, then we'd have one of the shorter workout days on Friday which sounded like a great plan considering Friday could be a day we would have less time (The most common week day that could have both work and a social event).
So that settled it -- and why we came up with today, a Thursday, being our start day. This also meant that Wed would be our rest day and keeps the shorter workout days during the week.
So the schedule looks like this:
Thursday: Chest & Back, Ab Ripper X (69 minutes)
Friday: Plyometrics (59 minutes)
Saturday: Shoulders & Arms, Ab Ripper X (75 minutes)
Sunday: Yoga X (92 minutes)
Monday: Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X (75 minutes)
Tuesday: Kenpo X (55 minutes)
Wednesday: Rest or X Stretch
Do you schedule your workouts? No matter if you are following a program or if you go to the gym, the best way to stick to your workouts is to schedule them in a weekly and daily setting and make sure that it's doable and fits into your daily/weekly life. This can be at a different time every day and every week could be different. I schedule my workouts at the same time I plan my meals for the week. That way I know I can stick to it.
